SDCI Summer Interns Advance Science Diplomacy Through Research and Collaboration
Amelia English and Wacuka Ngata spent their summer exploring science diplomacy through innovative research and collaborative projects with SDCI.

Our work with SDCI shows how collaborative research and knowledge-sharing can strengthen global science diplomacy for present and future challenges.
This summer, SDCI welcomed two interns, Amelia English and Wacuka Ngata, whose projects bridged research, innovation, and the practice of science diplomacy.
Amelia, a graduate student, developed an annotated bibliography that traces the foundations, considerations, and applications of science diplomacy. Wacuka, an MIT sophomore, focused on advancing sustainability through research on the ecological impacts of data centers, connecting engineering and diplomacy to address global energy challenges. Together, their efforts highlight how science diplomacy is not only about theory but also about practical applications that span energy systems, knowledge infrastructures, and international collaboration.
Their projects underscore SDCI’s commitment to empowering next-generation science diplomats with the tools to address complex global issues sustainably.
